GW was probably inspired by the way Wizards of the Coast decided to handle D&D. In addition, while BB1 was initially developped with LRB5 in mind, it used LRB6 at release. LRB5 bis: 2007 - addition of Slann, Chaos Pact and Underworldīasically, everytime you mention an edition, it's LRB instead. LRB5: 2006 - turnovers are established in their modern form, league rules, inducements (before inducements, there was Special Cards) LRB4: 2005 (lots of streamlining, innovations about player amount on the field) LRB3: 2004 (I think the first one by a commitee completely distinct from GW, but maybe that's LRB4) LRB1: 2002 (player ageing, fouling rules) It works this way:īB First Edition: 1986 (the one that used cardboard)īB Second Edition: 1988 (plastic miniatures, very different rules, first edition of Dungeon Bowl)īB Third Edition: 1994 (simplified from 2nd ed., lots of new races)īB Fourth Edition: 2000-2002 (that's when the LRB started, with content being more dynamically added/updated). I think it's important to distinguish Living RuleBooks (LRB) from 'editions'. The video game has Blood Bowl (based off of 5th edition), Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition (based off of the 6th edition), Blood Bowl 2 (based on 6th edition), and the upcoming Blood Bowl 3 (based on the season 2 or 2020 rules) The tabletop game has these physical releases: Blood Bowl, Blood Bowl 2nd Edition, Blood Bowl 3rd edition, Blood Bowl, (again but released in 2016, which is basically the 6th edition rules) Blood Bowl Season 2 (released in 2020) they also had rule updates for 4th edition and then a community made 5th edition and 6th edition. They'll release new things for us to buy. Just because the rules of the game didn't change for a long time before that doesn't mean that it will be the same again. Then they released a proper newer edition, with new teams that no one else made yet, new rules, more availability for starplayers (remember, they want to make money). So they started by enhancing what was already there, they sold teams, without upsetting the market. They couldn't change immediately how it worked. They went back to a game they abandoned to fans for a decade and more. But more importantly no, because you need to understand why they did it this way. So yes, because the basic ruleset worked in the same way. A few teams got updated (Ogres, Halflings, Underworld), two added (Snotlings, OWA), some skills changed, but more importantly, they released a lot of new starplayers and side-rules (like the ability to hire a starplayer for your team, but also a lot of nice additions for leagues).
